Though it suffers from frigid temperatures for much of the year, Edmonton offers a range of tourist activities for all four seasons.
TELUS World of Science - Edmonton and Edmonton Valley Zoo are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get some historical perspective at Old Strathcona and Fort Edmonton Park. Step out of Edmonton with an excursion to Chicakoo Lake Recreation Area in Onoway--about 44 minutes away. Spend the 14th (Tue) exploring nature at Elk Island National Park. And it doesn't end there: learn more about the world around you at Royal Alberta Museum, browse the different shops at Kingsway Mall, take a stroll through Whyte Avenue, and get a sense of history and politics at Alberta Legislature Building.

You can fly from Calgary to Edmonton in 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Calgary in December, plan for a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Edmonton: temperatures range from -6°C by day to -16°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 15th (Wed) early enough to catch the flight back home.
