Thimphu — 4 nights

The kingdom's capital and most modern city, Thimphu offers a mix of ancient traditions and modern commercialism.
Thimphu is known for sightseeing, scenic drive, and parks. Your trip includes some of its best attractions: pause for some photo ops at Kuenselphodrang, gain insight with a tour of cultural highlights, make a trip to Thimphu Chorten (Memorial Chorten), and stroll through Motithang Takin Preserve.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands to Thimphu is an approximately 18.5-hour combination of flight and car. You can also do a combination of flight, taxi, bus, and car; or fly. The time zone changes from Central European Standard Time to Bhutan Time, which is usually a 5 hour difference. Traveling from Amsterdam in August, things will get a bit warmer in Thimphu: highs are around 30°C and lows about 19°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Wed) to allow time to drive to Punakha.

Punakha — 2 nights

The imperial past feels present in Punakha, where an impressive fortress testifies to the heyday of this former capital of Bhutan.
Start off your visit on the 12th (Thu): don't miss a visit to Sangchhen Dorji Lhuendrup nunnery and then make a trip to Khamsum Yulley Namgyal Chorten. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: don't miss a visit to Punakha Suspension Bridge, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Punakha Dzong, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Chimi Lhakhang Temple.

Traveling by car from Thimphu to Punakha takes 2.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. Finish your sightseeing early on the 13th (Fri) so you can drive to Phobjikha Valley.
