Edam — 7 nights

Edam is a city in the northwest Netherlands, in the province of North Holland. Head to Edam Cheese market and City Mall Almerefor plenty of shopping. Change things up with these side-trips from Edam: Enkhuizen (Sprookjeswonderland & Zuiderzeemuseum), Zaandam (Zaans Museum, Molen De Kat, &more) and IJsselmeer (Lake IJssel) (in Makkum). There's lots more to do: see the interesting displays at Zaanse Schans, catch some excitement at Rent & Event Volendam, go for a stroll along the water at Marina Volendam, and take an in-depth tour of Edams Museum.

Amsterdam to Edam is an approximately half hour car ride. Expect a daytime high around 26°C in August, and nighttime lows around 15°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 20th (Sat) so you can drive to The Hague.

Known as the "judicial capital of the world," The Hague is the center for everything official in the Netherlands: the home of the Dutch government and parliament, the workplace of the King and Queen, and the base of many international affairs such as the International Court of Justice and the International Criminal Court.
Give yourself a bit of retail therapy at The Mauritshuis Royal Picture Gallery and Markthal. Change things up with these side-trips from The Hague: Haarlemmermeerse Bos (in Hoofddorp), Frans Hals Museum (in Haarlem) and Bottle Distillery (in Eindhoven). Next up on the itinerary: find something for the whole family at Madurodam, pause for some serene contemplation at Maria van Jessekerk, enjoy the sand and surf at Zandmotor, and get a sense of history and politics at Peace Palace.
