Calais — 14 nights

Gate to the North
Overlooking the Strait of Dover, the narrowest point of the English Channel, Calais is a major port for ferry traffic between France and England as the closest French town to Dover. You'll find plenty of places to visit near Calais: Eglise Saint-Vaast (in Bethune), Amiens (St-Leu, Cathedrale Notre-Dame d'Amiens, &more) and Necropole Nationale Francaise de Notre-Dame de Lorette (in Ablain-Saint-Nazaire). On the 10th (Thu), enjoy a perfect day by the water at Le Touquet Beach. There's still lots to do: look for gifts at Calais Wine Superstore, pause for some photo ops at The Burghers of Calais, learn about all things military at La Coupole, and take in the architecture and atmosphere at Eglise Notre-Dame.
For where to stay, traveler tips, other places to visit, and tourist information, refer to the Calais trip itinerary planner.
If you are flying in from The Netherlands, the closest major aiports are Lille-Lesquin Airport, Calais International Rail Station and Lille International Rail Station. In August, daytime highs in Calais are 24°C, while nighttime lows are 15°C.
