Visit the historic and current center of Dutch political life at Binnenhof & Ridderzaal (Inner Court & Hall of the Knights). The 13th-century Gothic castle was originally the seat of the counts of Holland, and it later served as the main government building of the Dutch Republic. Today, the castle is home to the upper and lower houses of the parliament, as well as the prime minister's office. The central building of the castle represents the magnificent grand hall, with a throne from which the Dutch monarch delivers the parliament's opening speech. Go on a guided tour of the castle, learn about its history, admire the architecture, and use the opportunity to watch the parliament in session. Occasionally parts of the building may be inaccessible due to important political activities. • Beautiful center of parliament! The fountain is fabulous. There is a lot of architecture to admire here, but there is not much more to do. It is nice to see a rather strong sense of security here to protect the area. Take a walk through here and enjoy the structures. Nice way to warm up to Mauritshuis, since it is right next door.
  • Government buildings are normally quite foreboding but the Binnenhof & Ridderzaal in The Hague prove this wrong. An impressive array of buildings around a large courtyard with a fountain alongside softens the look and is interesting. Its location right next to the Mauritshaus makes it convenient for a visit. As the center of Government of the Netherlands it is surprising how easy it is to visit. Be sure to go into the courtyard to see the historic buildings and the pretty fountain.
