  • This is a small museum. But it is packed with hundreds of chess-sets from all over the world. There are sets with cartoon characters, super heroes, dragons. And from all kinds of materials.

  • The best value museum in Rotterdam, and the most fascinating collection. Even if you are not into chess, there is something to amuse or delight you here. In the shade of the famous Cube Houses, on the beautifully kept overpass, there is a building that looks like a shop, but is in fact a museum. For a tiny price (about 3 euros, I think) you could easily spend an hour looking through a simply vast collection of chess pieces, boards and related equipment. They have three-player chess, and 4D chess from Star Trek, but the highlight is the odd, obscure or unexpected set that sparks a childhood memory, or takes you back to a place you once visited. There is a challenge for children (my son won a chess piece to take home with him), a chance to vote on the latest additions to the museum, and the opportunity to play a game with the over-sized collection of pieces designed for the museum, out on the promenade. The staff were helpful, informative and kind. This is a great way to spend a little more time amongst the fabulous architecture of the area.
  • Small museum where you can find lots of different kinds of chess sets. I am not a chess player myself, but it was very nice to have a look around. Entrance is 2 euros, so I call worth.
