Het Scheepvaartmuseum| The National Maritime Museum
At Het Scheepvaartmuseum| The National Maritime Museum, explore interactive exhibits of the city's maritime history inside a stunning, 17th-century building. This museum is housed in what was once the Amsterdam Admiralty's mainland naval storehouse, designed by Daniel Stalpaert and completed in 1656. Now you can tour the modernized museum, known for its playful and attractive multimedia exhibits. Discover the site's vast collection of shipping and sailing artifacts, including maps drafted by famous 17th-century cartographers. Finally, step onto a recreation of the Amsterdam--a large Dutch East India Co. vessel that sank in 1749--to see what life was like aboard this ship during one of its many long journeys. The museum contain pieces on a few different topics, but not very detailed or informative. A little small and the exhibits missing a storyline or background information.

Loved the museum! There is so much information on hand about the Dutch history at sea, boat replicas of all sorts, maps to study, navigational instruments etc. The replica of the "Amsterdam" ship is stunning and we loved exploring it! We spent around two hours here, but actually more time is needed for a full visit.

What an amazing collection. Loved it! The only regret I have is arriving in the afternoon because we ran out of time to see everything in detail. The descriptions, the way things are displayed, the atmosphere, everything is quite pleasant to see! Highly recommended!
