Create an itinerary including Museo Historico Militar de San Carlos
Frozen in time centuries ago, Museo Historico Militar de San Carlos originally protected Palma de Mallorca against enemy attacks from the sea. The museum housed inside the sandstone castle preserves artifacts from the island's rich military past, including parade uniforms, weapons, and helmets. In the 20th century, the castle served as a military hospital and prison. Today, a walk around the well-maintained fortification transports visitors to a time when pirates regularly attacked and ransacked the island. The castle offers sweeping views of the city and the surrounding area, so don't forget to bring your camera. Using our custom trip planner, Palma de Mallorca attractions like Museo Historico Militar de San Carlos can form part of a personalized travel itinerary.

  • A wonderful little museum to spend an hour in, especially considering that it’s free! Well worth a visit if you’re in the area. (About a 10 minute walk from Portopi Shopping Centre)

  • It's for sure a place for people interesting in war memorabilia, but it also offers great views of the city and harbor, a little closer than the castle. It was free when we visited on a Sunday. Cafe and bathrooms on site. Some exhibits on Spanish war history and collection of guns and knives from all around the world. Recommend for something less touristy to do. Parking also on site or taxi.
  • Definitely worth a visit, pleasantly surprised! We had breakfast at Bar San Carlos then decided to explore the museum itself. Well-organised, lots of interesting information and moreover, the views of Palma, the castle, the cathedral, the port area are stunning! Free entry to boot
