Known also as Sun Gate, Intipuncu remains an important archeological site. Dedicated to Inti, the Incan sun god, the gateway once served as a part of the fortress that overlooked the roads leading to the city. Today, its vantage point offers some of the best views of all of Machu Picchu and the surrounding mountain peaks. Despite the inclining terrain, the relatively short 1.6 km (1 mi) hike over the stone-paved road from Machu Picchu to the gateway is not too difficult. The trail offers excellent views along its entire length, so even if you don't ascend the entire way, the hike remains worthwhile. Wear sturdy hiking shoes, bring your camera and plenty of water, and note that the path can be slippery when wet. • Karen was so helpful and nice. She made our stay at the hotel so wonderful! The hotel was very nice and comfortable. The breakfast was ready before our hike at 5am and was delicious.

  • The best place to visit for the amazing people who love to explore the wonderful things in the world.
  • After 4 days on the Inca Trail you get to experience this as the sun rises and the skies clear. It's an incredible reward for the time and effort you've spent over the past four days. It's something that you'll never forget - and it should be on your top ten list of morning views to experience
