Whether under the hot sun of day or bright lights at night, Plaza de Armas serves as Cusco's beating heart around the clock. Shops, restaurants, and bars line the buzzing square, which acts as a meeting point and a social destination. An imposing cathedral and a striking church symbolize the historical importance of the square--this is where Spanish forces first seized control of Cusco, imposing their rules and religion on the land. Admire the timeless architecture of the plaza, or simply take a seat next to the roses and watch Cusco life in motion before your eyes. With our world travel planner, Cusco attractions like Plaza de Armas can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.

  • Cusco’s El Centro/Plaza de Armas area is amazing! This part of Cusco is so walkable and an amazing way to see the history - both Incan and Spanish - of Peru, Cusco, and the surrounding area...

  • This is the main square in Cuzco, Peru. Beautiful place and very large. The cathedral is on one side and stores line the others. It is very active all day and in the evening. This is a wonderful place for people watching. There are a number of restaurants - all good. Give it a try.
  • A nice square when you can just hang out on the stairs. Pretty busy but relaxing at the same time. If you are lucky you may happen to find a parade made of 4 to 10 dancers in traditional outfits. Enjoy the breathtaking Cusco atmosphere and take your time.
