See a collection of art and artifacts at Museo de Arte Precolombino, a heritage center that sensitively and sympathetically details the artistic progress and cultural development of natives before the colonial era. Built on the site an Incan ceremonial court, the museum's main building was designed as a colonial mansion in 1580. A historic monument of Cusco reopened as a museum in 2003, the building now displays a collection of artworks and objects from the pre-Columbian times. Take a tour of the museum to see the finely sculpted jewelry, ornate pots, and ceremonial masks made by native cultures between 1250 BCE and 1532 CE. The explanations in English are good. They could make an English version of the 5 minute movie in the beginning. They have McReynolds few artifacts compared with the Larco museum in Lima but what...

Small but well done. Reminded me of a mini-Larco. The design of the museum was only surpassed by the quality of the pieces. Nice stop that gives solid info on the area and Peru throughout time...

As a ceramic artist, I found this museum to be incredibly curated, and overall a wonderful insight on how different communities in Peru expressed their ideas and identity building through art. The museum focuses on three main components of indigenous ideology, the things represented by and associated with the sky, underground, and in between, earth. The story telling mostly follows this narrative along with the duality of life. These are the strings that tie together the art in the museum, along with geopolitical explanations that relate to allyship and military strategy. The mediums on display are materials that can face the test of time - gold, silver, petrified wood, stone, and ceramic. Aside from a small section upstairs, you won’t find any paintings or textiles. The craftsmanship is really admirable, something even contemporary artists struggle with using the same mediums and current technology. I would say it is the best museum I have visited in Cusco, definitely worth it if you like this type of art and narration.
Closed at 16!!!! While in Google indicates at 22!! When there’re are crowds of tourists coming to Cusco every day and going to excursions that finish always after 16!! What are you thinking of? You don’t need money for maintenance and conversation?! There are hundreds of people who have time only in the evening and very interested to see the peaces of this museum!! I’m an art historian and cultural manager and this is a shame and disappointment!
