Create an itinerary including Mercado Central de San Pedro
Get a taste of local culture at Mercado Central de San Pedro, where you can roam the stalls with freshly squeezed juices, San Pedro cacti, seafood, black corn, pig heads, and dried Llama fetuses, an offering to the Earth Goddess. See women in bright colored skirts and ponchos rolling wheelbarrows of tuna or carrying babies on their backs. Get up early and have a typical Cusquena breakfast, a portion of beef with potatoes and rice, at the cafeteria with rows of benches and huge pots and pans. Check out textiles woven by hand and colored with natural dyes, and try on hats made from alpaca wool. This giant warehouse, a short walk from the main plaza, stretches all the way towards the railway tracks. • Very fun time. The sales associates are VERY prone to get you to buy. Very fun to pick up some essentials/gifts/novelties.

  • Buying fruits and vegetables in this market is a must. They are of better quality compared to the ones in supermarkets. Plus is much cheaper. And you are supporting the local farmers. Bring your groceries bag because they love to give you a plastic bag for everything. Vendors are really nice and you can find many bulk stands here, perfect to go Zero Waste. @PromadikTravel
  • Very cool market with a very large variety including plant medicine supplies. Lot's of places to eat also. At the moment (May 2021) you have to wear a face shield to enter. One point: although it might not seem so but it is a tourist attraction and so prices are higher than places who cater for locals. Just outside, in the nearby streets (in the direction of Santiago) you can find everything for much cheaper.
