Create an itinerary including Besakih Temple
Admire the largest and most sacred of Bali's Hindu temples at Besakih Temple, an important place of worship and an example of Balinese architecture. Situated in an impressive mountainous landscape, the main temple presides over an attractive vista, giving opportunities for photographs of its protruding decorative steps against a captivating natural backdrop. Consider hiring a guide to discover more about the temple's history, and to find the quieter places at this very busy attraction. Be prepared for locals trying to convince you to buy something; some can be quite insistent. Work out when and for how long to visit Besakih Temple and other Besakih attractions using our handy Besakih driving holiday planner.

  • A supposed-to-be beautiful temple made ugly by people trying to rip your money off left and right. NOT RECOMMENDED. On the admission ticket it is stated that it includes: - one way transport (you will have to walk back to the parking lot on your own or pay extra for a ride back) - a tour guide - sarong rental On your way to the ticket booth there will be sarong vendors forcing you to buy one and not mentioning that it is included with the ticket. Such a shady practice. Then a lady on the entrance forcing you to take offerings for 10k-25k saying that it is customary. No it’s not. Tourists are not even allowed to enter the temple interiors, you just walk around the complex. The tour guide asked for extra tip in advance. Otherwise they simply let you walk around by yourself and leave. Still wanting to go? Think again.
  • Besakih, on the side of Mount Agung, is a special place. If you go here, be respectful, dress appropriately and maybe your guide will get you a blessing in the upper temple. Despite all the "No Drone" signs, I was there during Pandemic and given permission to fly mine. An amazing place in Bali. The center of the universe. I think the Balinese are holding the world together.
