Local legend claims wild wolves used to seek refuge on Mount Lycabettus, a tall hill noted for offering unbeatable views of Athens. Tradition has it that Athena, the goddess of wisdom, created this hill when she accidentally dropped a mountain she had intended for the construction of the city's famed citadel. You can access this "hill walked by wolves," as its name roughly translates, by a funicular railway departing from a station in the central part of the city. The hill rises to 277 m (908 ft) above sea level, its peak featuring a 19th century chapel, theater, and restaurant. Pick a sunny day for your visit if possible, and don't forget your camera. The view from the top was definitely worth the effort up. We took the funicular but just getting there was a lot of effort with a baby and a toddler. There was a ton of stairs so definitely not...

This well know sight is indeed very beautiful. Right at the center of Athens, in the old neighborhoods, after doing some walking up the woods, there is a lovely small church and magnificent view!

Nice spot for sunset and after the sunset. Tips: before the sun is setting, you will see a beautiful light in the east side (behind the toilets)

It is for free. It is not a hard climb. There is a beautiful church on the top, nice restaurants on the way. I went there at 5pm and saw the sunset. You can also have a complete view of Athens including the beach and the acropolis. About safety, I never felt unsecure. The only problem is that it can be a bit crowded specially during the sunset.
