International Maritime Museum reveals the history and future of shipping with a collection of artifacts, model ships, and maritime art. Look for a 3,000-year-old dugout found in the Elbe River. Don't miss the reproduction of Sir Ernest Shackleton's lifeboat from his trans-Antarctic expedition. The replica was used in 2000 by the German explorer Arved Fuchs when he retraced the route. Captain your own ship on a simulator. An audio guide is available for an additional fee. • We spent 5 hours in this museum and felt like we need one more day. Has lot of pieces displayed, lot of history to learn and very beautiful rooms. You should definitely visit International Maritime Museum from Hamburg. Better start in the morning so you will get to see all its beautiful ships and exposure.
  • Gorgeous renovated warehouse, a loot to take in, and wonderful models. But it's more a model ship museum than a maritime museum. Unfortunately, the lack of English texts, of a sense of storytelling, and the sheer number of items makes it underwhelming. It would really benefit from showing less, but explaining better. I am a history buff, and had to spend the entire visit giving contexts to the items and model ships shown to my family.
