Create an itinerary including Chapelle du Rosaire
A masterpiece designed by Henri Matisse, Chapelle du Rosaire is a monument of sacred art. The then-crippled artist designed the L-shaped church at the request of his former nurse, who had become a Dominican nun. Take time to examine the artist's various works and favorite objects, including stained glass, murals, stations of the cross, ceramics, objects of worship, and vestments. The structure is unassuming from the front--until you notice the 12 m (39 ft) crescent-adorned cross rising from the white and blue tiled roof. Stop in the gallery to learn about the chapel's design and construction from 1949 to 1951. • An astonishing work of art and religion by Matisse. Beautiful and original. It really lifts the heart.

  • Beautiful yet simple chapel, designed by Matisse and others. The exhibit does a good job in explaining the genesis of the project and the chapel itself is worth a visit

  • Lovely little chapel designed by Matisse, very nice introduction provided before you enter as well as different drafts of his vision for the wall paintings and stained glass. Tranquil outdoor space overlooking a gorgeous valley, and fun upstairs display of Matisse-designed priest robes in bright colours for different religious events. Very glad to have seen it before walking from Vance to Saint Paul du Vance village. For Matisse fans, it's a must!
  • Simple and beautiful as his understanding of religion. The cross with the crescents on the rooftop is quite unusual combining the symbols of Christianity and Islam. As if he wanted to tell us that there is one God, one Creation. I love the message.
