Create an itinerary including Hato Caves
Once home to the Amerindian Arawaks 1500 years ago, Hato Caves still contain many of the petroglyphs left behind by their original inhabitants. A comfortable, paved trail leads you deep into the Earth, winding through stalagmites, stalactites, and other bizarre rock formations. You’ll have a guide on hand to relay stories of how man's relationship with the caves has evolved over time, while also explaining the geology behind the caves' formation. With steep paths and steps, entering the caves can present difficulties for people with mobility issues. Quickly create a custom-made itinerary for Willemstad using our trip planner.

  • I took the bus to the caves. Very easy from town. We had a 45 minutes guided tour. It was interesting and worth checking out.

  • It's a guided tour, cost $10 USD roughly about 40 minutes. Tons of parking available. Cool to see and learn the history. I would recommend going if it is raining, you would get to see water flowing throughout. Still interesting in general but a good rainy day activity.
  • This was a nice break from the average high intensity excursion. You had to make your way up a few steep steps to get in and the cave was very hot. While they had fans inside, it was still scorching in July. We did this excursion matched with a beach trip on our July 2022 Carnival cruise. While it was nice, it was not as exciting as our other excursions. It was a small cave and we only spent a limited time in. They had multiple groups in and out so you had to wait to move from cavern to cavern. We've done other caves before. Our guide was nice and informative but, if you're really into caves, this may not be the trip for you.
