Gain invaluable insight into Quebec history with a trip to Pole Culturel du Monastere des Ursulines, a museum dedicated to the monastery and school established in 1639 by a group of Ursuline Nuns. The monastery acted as a kind of finishing school for young French girls from its inception. Considered the oldest teaching center in the Americas, the museum displays a host of artifacts belonging to the nuns, including relics from old classrooms and a collection of rare books that can be consulted for no charge by patrons. Don’t leave without seeing the picturesque convent gardens, which were kept secret from the city for almost four centuries but now are open to the public.
