A dramatic 50 m (160 ft) drop located in the heart of Jasper National Park, Maligne Canyon offers memorable views and diverse flora and fauna. Trickling waterfalls, nesting ravens and black swifts, underground stream outlets, and ancient fossils are all hidden amongst the verdant beauty. You can discover it all by walking along a series of trails and traversing four impressive bridges. As you hike through the unspoilt landscape, notice the unusual rock formations, carved out of the Palliser formation, a layer of limestone deposited by plankton some 365 million years ago. • Forget the expensive guided tour options -- just drive up to 'Bridge 6' and do the trail up to the cafe/restaurant at the top near bridge 1 and back again. Very spectacular and not very hard. Takes...

  • Wow ! We were lucky to have booked a tour with a guide and this was very educational. ( Other people , who didn’t have a guide were sneakily listening in!) well worth seeing , so deep and beautiful !

  • Very nice hike and canyon. Take a short trail or long one. Be prepared.. return is all up hill! 4 stars only because the trail signage was poor. It's a beautiful place!
  • If you love a hearty hike with a view, you should visit the place. The hike is under a thick canopy of trees with atmosphere filled with rushing sound of water flowing through the Malign Canyon on the side. The canyon ranges from very deep to shallow at places and the hike provides plenty of viewpoints scattered across the course. More adventurous can take the not so lengthy but pretty steep hill hike on the way back from bridge 5
